2 years: The journey so far

Consilium Technical Services was born on 21st March 2014. After a few months of perfecting the details, the company opened for business in August of that year.

The brainchild of Daryl Gordon and Andrew Gardner, Consilium is a specialist design company in all aspects of temporary traffic management (TTM) for the construction industry, local authorities & event management organisers.

Both Daryl and Andrew previously worked at Highway Traffic Management, and would regularly put out adverts for temporary support with design. After struggling to find regular, reliable service that was considered up to standard, the two decided to offer this service themselves. Enter Consilium.

Before traffic management, Daryl started as a trainee project manager in the construction industry. This is where he got involved with drawings and initially trained to use AutoCAD. Having worked in the industry for 11 years- starting on the road as a trainee operative- Daryl’s previous experience and qualifications in AutoCAD came to the fore by starting doing drawings- where he then found his passion. Working his way up in the drawing department to Design Manager, he excelled at HTM before taking the big leap on his own by launching Consilium.

We asked Daryl himself how the journey has been:

“Year one was a great year, it was really challenging but very rewarding. When you start seeing something grow that you have worked so hard to build it’s a fantastic, proud feeling. We got our ISO 9001 accreditation along with our Birmingham Business Chartered accreditation, and we won our biggest contract to date working with Chevron on Area 9.

“Over the past 2 years, we have doubled in size in terms of employees. Originally, we started with just me and Andrew. Today, we have a team of 5 full time in-house designers.

We’ve proven ourselves very quickly and as a result, have been able to work with some of the biggest TTM companies in the industry which has been a fantastic achievement for such a young company.”

With major clients such as Chevron TM, DTM Traffic Management, Highway Traffic Management & Premier Traffic Management, It can’t be questioned that Consilium have excelled in their short existence.

Daryl continued:

“The progress of the business has far exceeded my expectations, and I think that’s down to that fact that we have such a great team here who work hard and have the same passion for the businesses success as I do.”

And hopes for 2016 Daryl?

“We predominantly work with traffic management contractors, so this year we want to get more involved with local authorities and any other civil engineering contractors. We will be looking to advertise for a new TM designer over the next few months too as we’re continuing to grow, gain more clients and operate closer and closer to capacity.”
